INSPIRATION:

Obviously, I haven't been as dedicated to my writing in the past few months as in previous times. I continue to search for new inspiration, to try and find a way to peacefully coexist with my own creative spirit and not to lose my sense of humor. I'd love to share this tidbit a friend sent me. This is Elizabeth Gilbert giving one of the "Ted Talks." Enjoy!

thank you so much for sharing this beautiful talk. I found it really enlightening. It makes so much sense to me. But its also interesting how I resist this idea of not taking full responsibility for the possible genius of one's work. My little ego goes "no, no!" :D

While I do believe that this notion is healthier and can work for some people, I propose going forward instead of backward. I think we should be promoting and having more dialogue (both in small circles and in large society) about truly accepting the truth of living this artistic life. If everyone can accept that not only your chances of ‘making it big’ are extremely, extremely slim and rare…if everyone can accept that we are all just stabbing in the dark…that everyone has pretty much the same chance as the next person…that this life and experience is what you make of it…then there’s no need to dread what comes after the ‘genius’. It was a fluke…a moment in time…and while that’s AWESOME, there’s no reason to hold anyone up to the standard of a fluke. Hopefully this will help the artist feel less of a burden if the rest of the world isn’t expecting genius to hit again…even if they personally do need the little elf in the corner or the poem running through field for themselves personally. I don’t know anyone who is in the arts to make money or make it big. We do it because we have to and that should always be enough. The moment its not, then you should get out. And I think that can be applied to every career.

I read these two new blog post about this video this week and I think it articulates what I was trying to convey much better than I did.
